The Story
Imogen, a quiet and unaffected student at Oxford, is bullied, badgered and threatened both for her Christian beliefs and for her unusual artistic ability.
Her uncle – a lecturer at the University – engages Sophie to help him with his research. She is though a former MI5 informant and her parallel covert task is to try to deter these left-wing yobbos.
Sophie – a feet-on-the-ground Welsh girl – discovers that research articles are being stolen and sold on to foreign buyers and that political propaganda pamphlets are being secretly paid for with government funds. Civil servants are it becomes clear, also leaking intelligence staff details to various ‘civil liberties’ groups.
There is no sex, no shooting. Sophie is low-key but persistent and so only slowly does she turn the tide on these villains or persuade them to change their ways.
